Fish Lake has Northern pike, large mouth bass, bluegills, crappies, and catfish. Night crawlers, tackle and Illinois fishing licenses* are available for sale at the Fish Lake Beach Registration office. You may bring your own bait. Fish from the shore, pier or rent a boat and fish around the lake.
The extreme weather conditions we experienced his winter restricted the amount of sunlight that shines into the water to enable the growth of vegetation to oxygenate the water. The lack of oxygen caused fish to suffocate. The phenomenon has been noted throughout the region as many ponds and lakes are reporting a partial fish die-off. For this reason, we are permitting fishing of our lake on a ‘catch and release’ basis only. This will allow the our lake to naturally repopulate over time. As expected, the carp were only minimally affected, so we’re encouraging those that catch carp to bring them in for proper disposal. Thank you.
*Fishing licenses are required by the IDNR for those 16 years and older.
Spread out a blanket and dine on the beach or use one of the picnic tables under the shade trees. Don’t feel like packing a lunch? Run out of snacks? No problem! We have concessions-just steps away from the beach in our camp registration office. Concessions sells beach toys, candy, ice, snacks, hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and yummy soft serve ice cream.
- Pets are not permitted at the beach, but are allowed in the shaded picnic area
- Coolers and picnic baskets welcome
